Professor Jean-Christophe Bernhardhas been honoured with the prestigious René Küss Innovation Prize. This distinction recognises a urologist who has made a significant and lasting contribution to the field through leadership in clinical development and education.
Among other things, this prize rewards the creation and national coordination of the UroCCR French National Research Network on Kidney Cancer, a federating initiative bringing together urologists from the private and public sectors around a shared database. This ambitious project aims to include patients in order to strengthen clinical research, improve medical practices and enrich knowledge in urology.
In addition to this major achievement, Professor Bernhard is widely recognised for his leadership in cutting-edge projects, such as the RHU Digital Urology 3D project.
“The AFU Innovation Fund project, for which Dr Gaëlle Margue is the principal investigator, is based on predictive artificial intelligence algorithms. Its aim is to enable the CCAFU to make personalised recommendations to optimise patient management. For example, this could mean reduced surveillance for patients at low risk of recurrence or, conversely, better definition of the indications for adjuvant treatment. Thanks to preliminary work based on contemporary French data, two calculators are now freely available on the UroCCR website.”
These projects illustrate the commitment of Professor Bernhard and his team to transforming urological practice through innovation and collaboration.
His interview appears in UROjonction (January 2025, p. 4), the official journal of the French Association of Urology.
