As part of the I.CaRe Bordeaux program, more than 200 patients with kidney cancer have undergone robot-assisted partial nephrectomy on an outpatient basis at the Bordeaux University Hospital.
A symbolic milestone, but above all, a profound change in care!
Nearly 10 years ago, in 2016, Professor Jean-Christophe BERNHARD achieved a world first by performing the very first robot-assisted partial nephrectomy on an outpatient basis.
Behind this symbolic figure lies a greater ambition: to completely rethink the care pathway for patients with kidney cancer.
✅ High-precision robot-assisted surgery
✅ Optimal preservation of kidney function
✅ Discharge home the same day
✅ Personalized and secure follow-up care using digital tools
This initiative is led by Professor Jean-Christophe BERNHARD and Dr. Gaëlle Margue, who have been working for several years to develop and structure these approaches, which combine robotics, outpatient care, clinical research, and digital health.
This is exemplified in particular by:
📱UroConnect, a digital solution that supports patients before and after surgery
🔬 DiPRU, a multicenter study that has already involved 1,600 patients and is a France 2030 award winner
We are proud to contribute to advancing knowledge, research, and innovation in the treatment of kidney cancer in order to shape the care pathways of the future.
🙏 Thank you to all the patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, and partners who are making this breakthrough possible.
